McAfee is a long-standing player in the antivirus industry. The company was founded in 1988. is also well-known for its firewall, antispam, file encryption and public key infrastructure product lines. It is best known for its anti-virus software and holds a strong position on the market. Its security suites offer comprehensive protection against malware and viruses and are supported by a one-million dollar identity theft guarantee.
All McAfee plans include a full featured malware scanner which can stop the entry of malware into a system, and kill or deter any viruses already inside. Its real-time engine blocks malware from being downloaded and redirects, encrypts, and reroutes data to ensure that your online activity can’t be intercepted.
During our tests, McAfee always received top marks in AV-Test’s 0-day test and in our malware protection test. It also scored 100 percent on our privacy tests.
The interface of the suite is easy to navigate and easy to navigate and clean. It’s a little hard to access features like parental controls or identity theft protections. They’re siloed into distinct menus on the dashboard. The process of getting support is somewhat difficult. The McAfee Community Forum is in operation, but Techmaster Concierge will be required to assist you with more complex issues.
The most disappointing thing was that the McAfee system scan failed to remove junk files on our test systems. It also fails to provide a way to drag and drop a file or folder into the suite for scanning like many of its competitors do. This is a major omission in a security suite of this price.
